The Wordmark Tee — Charcoal on Sand

If the cream wordmarks are about declaring a color story — green for the morning rally, navy for the clubhouse walk — this one is about not declaring anything at all. Sand cotton, stone charcoal ink, no second mark. The softest, warmest neutral in the foundation series, and the wordmark we point to when someone is buying for a partner or a friend without knowing what colors she wears.

The print is single-color stone charcoal on sand. Inter Display Semibold, opened tracking, the same scale as the rest of the wordmark capsule. Stone charcoal rather than a true black keeps the contrast soft enough that the wordmark reads as part of the garment rather than printed on top of it; the eye lands on the substrate first and the type second, which is the order of operations a classic tee asks for.

Cut on the Comfort Colors 1717 — the same 6.1 oz heavyweight, garment-dyed cotton we use for the navy version. Sand is a warm, sun-bleached putty that sits between cream and oatmeal — quieter than either, and the easiest neutral to layer under linen, denim, or a club jacket. The body is relaxed and reads unisex; sized XS through 2XL with a true mid-fit, not boxy and not tapered.

The most-gifted tee in the foundation series, in our experience, and the one most often reordered in a second size after a friend has tried it. We picture it untucked over relaxed jeans on the walk to the courts, or layered under a charcoal cardigan at the cafe after, or on its own at a midweek lunch when she did not feel like deciding what to wear.

A single-color print, one substrate, no second hit. By the second wash the charcoal will have settled half a shade lighter and the sand will have warmed half a shade darker, and the two will meet in the middle the way garment-dyed cotton wants them to.

Care

Wash cold, inside out, line dry, no fabric softener. Cream colors: wash separately for the first three washes. Iron inside out on low heat, never on the print.
